Custom scenarios examining the projected fleet and emissions evolution have been developed, based on the recent Fit-for-55 proposal of the European Commission (COM(2021) 550 final , COM(2021) 556 final) regarding the ban of ICE light duty vehicles from 2035 onwards.
The examined scenarios are the following:
- Scenario 1: Implementation of the Fit-for-55 proposal for banning new registrations of ICE cars and vans from 2035 onwards;
- Scenario 2: Expand the Fit-for-55 proposal to all road transport, i.e. ban of all ICE vehicles from 2035 onwards;
- Scenario 3: Alternative approach to meet the Green Deal target, by delaying the ban of light-duty vehicles by 5 years and of trucks and coaches by 10 years with regard to 2035, while performing additional assumptions on the evolution of the fleet mix in terms of fuel/powertrain, engine size, vehicle activity, bio-fuel content, etc.;
- Scenario 4: NRs ban in 2035 (as in Fit-for-55 proposal) for cars, vans, urban buses and L-category vehicles and in 2050 for trucks and coaches, adopting the same additional assumptions of Scenario 3.
