Emisia conducted a thorough research on non-tailpipe emissions from road traffic for Flemish policy. The study involved the collection of current data from various sources, identifying gaps, and finding ways to bridge them through quantifying emission factors per source (brake, tire, road), and determining particle size, primarily focusing on PM10 and PM2.5. The study also evaluated the impact of parameters that affect non-exhaust emissions, their chemical composition, and the effectiveness of potential measures in consideration of the proposed Euro 7 limits.
The study investigated four policy options to address non-exhaust emissions, conduct a cost-benefit analysis, and determine the most beneficial option for three fleet evolution scenarios in the Flemish region. It concluded with specific recommendations for policy actions both at the European and Flemish levels.
