Giorgos Mellios Chief Operations Officer

Highly experienced in assessing the impacts of EU transport policies, with over 20 years of consulting experience and one year of working for the European Commission (JRC). Managed numerous projects funded by the European Commission, EEA, and the automotive and oil industry.

Skilled in transport emissions modelling, inventorying, and projections, including the COPERT model featured in the EMEP/EEA air pollutant emission inventory guidebook. Contributing to the work of the European Topic Centre on Climate change Mitigation (ETC-CM) for the EEA. Expertise in evaluating several methodologies and tools for estimating transport emissions for UNECE and Eurostat, as well as emission testing at periodic inspections, OBD systems, and fuel quality issues.

Prof. Zissis Samaras

Professor Zissis Samaras research work deals with engine and vehicle emissions testing and modeling and exhaust aftertreatment. He coordinated a number of large European projects, he was elected Vice Chairman of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (until 2023) and co-led for many years the UN-ECE Topic Group “Mobile Sources”.

He co-authored more than 280 publications, with more than 7000 citations (author h index 46) and holds four international patents. He is the co-founder of three spin-off companies Exothermia (now owned by Gamma Technologies), Emisia and Bio2CHP. Currently he leads a consortium that advises the European Commission on Euro 7 related topics.

Prof. Leon Ntziachristos

Leonidas Ntziachristos is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Aristotle University Thessaloniki, Greece and Visiting Professor at Tampere University, Finland. His research interests include clean combustion and pollutants formation, exhaust aerosol characterization, environmental sensors and emission models. He is responsible for the development of COPERT software, on behalf of the European Environment Agency and the EU Joint Research Centre. He co-chairs the transport expert panel of the UNECE Task Force on Emission Inventories and Projections and he is member of the steering committee of the European Research Group on Mobile Emission Sources. He has been consulting the European Commission on a number of regulatory initiatives including Euro-standards for emission control of cars, energy efficiency and CO2 control technologies.

Prof. Grigoris Koltsakis

Prof. Grigorios Koltsakis is a partner and scientific consultant at e:misia since 2021. He holds a professor position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Aristotle University Thessaloniki, specializing in Combustion Engines, emission control and electrochemistry.

From 2007 to 2021, he was scientific director of Exothermia SA (currently member of Gamma Technologies group), a spin-off company developing simulation software for emission control technologies. He has authored more than 120 scientific papers, holds 2 international patents and enjoys his free time on the basketball court.
