COPERT

COPERT serves as the EU standard vehicle emissions calculator, endorsed by the European Environment Agency and the European Commission. It stands as the cornerstone of our emission tools, excelling in estimating various pollutants across all road vehicle types.

with SIBYL

SIBYL has been envisaged as a comprehensive model for evaluating vehicle stock, air pollutants, and greenhouse gas projections, enabling the assessment of various projection scenarios in road transport across all European countries. Utilizing a bottom-up approach, SIBYL calculates year-by-year changes in vehicle fleet composition and emissions up to 2050.

EMISIA has recently redesigned the SIBYL baseline, which is now a COPERT compatible dataset that has been extracted using the SIBYL methodology, going even beyond the limits of the well-known software tool integrating new vehicle categories. This dataset provides a comprehensive time-series overview of historical and projected vehicle fleet data, air pollutant emissions, well-to-wheel (WTW) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and energy consumption covering the period from 1990 to 2050.

through COPERT

Our objective is to develop and maintain exhaust and non-exhaust emission factors for all modes of transportation for all European countries. This involves leveraging sources such as EU research projects (DOWNTOTEN, SCIPPER, LENS, etc.), conducting in-house measurements, and utilizing literature reviews with post-processing.

The application of these emission factors includes contributing to official handbooks (UN/EEA AEIG, IPCC, etc.), facilitating emissions inventorying, and supporting technology assessment efforts.

The primary outputs of SIBYL can be used for cost assessment models, to calculate the total emissions and benefits as well as the associated new technology implementation costs, towards the cost-benefit calculation. It allows the formation and execution of scenarios, policy assessment and target setting.

The focus revolves around policy-oriented responses, assessing the cost of implementing new technology, and evaluating the cost-effectiveness (in €/kg) of various options. Additionally, a crucial aspect involves determining the net cost-benefit (in €) of options by internalizing externalities.
